Job Description:

Art Director - WSJ Pro/Private Equity Analyst

The Wall Street Journal Professional Products team seeks an experienced art director who will be responsible for leading the design and production of Private Equity Analyst magazine, the monthly publication of WSJ Pro Private Equity, and other printed materials. The art director will be responsible for the visual style and images in print and will help define a visual signature for all printed products under the WSJ Pro banner. The ideal candidate will have a combination of newsroom, visual and management skills. This person must be creative, diligent and able to work across several departments at Dow Jones and with third-party service providers.


  • Lead the design, visuals development and production of Private Equity Analyst magazine on a monthly basis.

  • Oversee the layout and content of the magazine, liaising with the respective editorial teams and commercial teams for advertising placements.

  • Manage the proofing process alongside editorial teams to validate and approve page proofs prior to printing.

  • Own the delivery of PEA to the printers.

  • Work with editorial and commercial teams to deliver custom solutions such as white papers and special reports in print and digital formats.

  • Provide photo and graphic support to editorial teams as needed.

  • Lead the production of custom charts and data.

  • Support Editorial and Product teams in collating and adding datasets for tools across all Pro verticals.

  • Provide support to the Marketing team on changes to marketing collateral.

  • Decide how best to represent a concept visually through collaborative conversations.

  • Determine which photographs, art, or other design elements to use.

  • Develop and maintain the overall look or style of the publication, and maintain graphic consistency across all deliverables.

  • Coordinate activities with other editorial and creative departments including advertising and prepress.

  • Communicate effectively with editors, reporters and members of the product and technology teams.


  • 5+ years as a professional graphic designer with expert-level aptitude on a Mac platform

  • Excellent design ability with expert knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Deadline-based project management skills and obsessive attention to detail

  • Creative and technical problem-solving skills with extensive knowledge of print production

  • Strong communication and time-management skills and deadline-oriented newsroom experience
