The Wall Street Journal is seeking a manager of multi-format production to support its video and audio team in our London office. Top candidates for this position will demonstrate excellent technical and production skills, as well as a proactive and collaborative spirit. Because this is a small team, the manager role is a hands-on position that works alongside video journalists and audio producers, serving as a shooter and editor, in addition to daily production responsibilities.
Primary responsibilities include:
Working as a lead videographer, shooting and editing videos in-studio and in the field
Serving as the key manager responsible for video and audio production facilities, as well as camera, sound and editing equipment
Conveying news, feature and enterprise stories in creative ways using video, motion graphics and animation
Animating text, maps and charts
Managing multiple projects in various stages of production
Anticipating and solving production challenges in a proactive and positive manner
Developing workflows that reduce or eliminate friction for all involved in production
Overseeing both taped and live production, upholding highest standards to limit errors
Partnering with corporate counterparts to fully-utilize available resources
Ability to work late hours and weekends as news developments and time zone considerations may warrant
Completing additional duties as assigned
Key candidate requirements:
At least seven years’ experience working in a non-fiction production environment, preferably one focused on producing digital video and audio coverage
Expert understanding of video and audio production workflows and technologies, including transmissions, control rooms, networking, field and studio operations
Demonstrated experience with multiple camera setups, including but not limited to the Sony FS5, FS7, C100 and C300
Adept with studio lighting setups as well as field shoots
Professional-level understanding of Adobe Suite, with a high level of expertise in Premiere and knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
Clear communicator with exceptional written and collaboration skills
Demonstrated experience executing production under tight deadline and budget constraints
Unrestricted ability to work in the United Kingdom
